ADQ Overhauls Abu Dhabi’s Transport: New Era for Toll and Parking Systems

Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a strategic move to enhance the emirate’s transportation infrastructure, the Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ) has assumed control over the management, operation, and development of Abu Dhabi’s toll and parking systems. This transition includes the DARB toll system and the Mawaqif parking system, both of which are integral to the city’s smart mobility framework.

DARB Toll System

Operational since 2021, the DARB toll system manages eight toll gates across Abu Dhabi. The primary objective of DARB is to alleviate traffic congestion and promote the use of public transportation. By integrating advanced technology, DARB aims to build a smart mobility infrastructure that supports the emirate’s long-term urban planning goals.

Mawaqif Parking System

Established in 2009, the Mawaqif parking system provides structured public parking facilities throughout Abu Dhabi. The system is fully digitalized, offering mobile phone payment options and integration with the DARB smart application. Mawaqif’s digital platform enhances user convenience and supports the city’s vision of a seamless, tech-driven urban experience.

Strategic Integration and Benefits

The inclusion of DARB and Mawaqif into ADQ’s transport and logistics portfolio is expected to generate sustainable financial returns and improve urban mobility. Mansour AlMulla, Deputy Group CEO of ADQ, emphasized that this move will create significant synergies, enhancing existing transport assets and contributing to the development of a sustainable transport network in Abu Dhabi.

Under the regulatory supervision of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), the operations of DARB and Mawaqif will remain unaffected. This ensures continuity in service delivery while benefiting from ADQ’s expertise in managing large-scale infrastructure projects.

Benefits of the Transition

  1. Enhanced Efficiency: ADQ’s expertise in managing large-scale infrastructure projects is expected to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve service delivery for both the DARB and Mawaqif systems.
  2. Improved User Experience: With ADQ’s focus on integrating advanced technologies, users can expect more seamless and efficient interactions with toll and parking systems. This includes better mobile app functionalities, real-time updates, and enhanced customer support.
  3. Economic Growth: The transition supports Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification efforts by creating new job opportunities and fostering innovation in the transport sector. This move aligns with the emirate’s broader economic goals and contributes to sustainable financial returns.
  4. Environmental Benefits: By promoting the use of public transportation and optimizing parking management, the transition helps reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions. This aligns with Abu Dhabi’s commitment to environmental sustainability and smart city initiatives.
  5. Strategic Development: ADQ’s management will likely lead to the development of new infrastructure projects and enhancements to existing systems. This strategic development supports Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming a global leader in smart mobility and urban planning.

Future Prospects

ADQ’s management of these systems aligns with its broader strategy to develop cluster ecosystems and foster long-term value creation. This move supports Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification efforts and aims to improve essential services such as transportation. By leveraging ADQ’s resources and expertise, the emirate is poised to advance its goal of building a smart, safe, and sustainable transport network.
