Dubai Metro Blue Line hits 10% progress, targets 30% by 2026
The Dubai Metro Blue Line project has achieved 10% completion in just 5 months, reaching a major milestone in this $5.6-billion infrastructure project. This ambitious transportation system will stretch across 30km and feature 14 stations. The project currently employs more than 500 engineers and experts among 3,000 workers at 12 construction sites. The Blue Line aims to serve communities that will house about one million residents by 2040.
The Blue Line’s economic benefits will be a big deal as they mean that AED 56.5 billion will flow into the economy by 2040. Property values near the planned stations could jump by up to 25%, and average rents in the nine affected districts have already climbed by 23% since the project’s announcement. The new line will serve nearly 200,000 passengers daily by 2030, and this number will grow to 320,000 by 2040. These improvements will boost mobility on Emirates Road Dubai and strengthen the existing Dubai Metro network.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced that construction works on the Dubai Metro Blue Line project have reached 10% completion. This milestone comes just five months after the groundbreaking ceremony in June 2025.
The project now has more than 500 engineers and experts working with 3,000 workers at 12 active construction sites throughout Dubai. These teams are speeding up progress to deliver this major transportation initiative on time.
“Work is proceeding on schedule, with 30% completion expected by the end of 2026 and operations set to begin on September 9, 2029,” Al Tayer confirmed. The project will connect major residential, academic, economic, and tourism districts in the emirate.
The project consortium has reached a remarkable safety record with over 3 million work hours without any fatalities. This achievement reflects the strict safety protocols at all construction sites.
Engineering teams are making swift progress. RTA’s regular updates show that the Blue Line development stays on track with its ambitious timeline and will deliver this significant addition to Dubai’s growing transportation network as planned.

The Blue Line showcases a unique Y-shaped design that stretches 30km and connects 14 stations across Dubai. Two main routes meet at International City 1, creating a vital transport link through Dubai’s eastern neighborhoods.
Starting from Creek Station on the Green Line, the main 21km route runs through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbor, and Ras Al Khor to International City 1. The route then continues through International City 2 and 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and ends at Academic City. A shorter 9km route begins at Centrepoint Station on the Red Line and travels through Mirdif and Al Warqa before connecting to the main line at International City 1.
The line’s 14 stations include nine elevated structures and five underground stations. Dubai Creek Harbor station will set a world record for its structural design. These stations link nine key areas: Al Jaddaf, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbor, Ras Al Khor, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Mirdif, Al Warqa, and Dubai International Airport.
Passengers will enjoy spectacular views of Dubai’s skyline from a 1,300-meter-long viaduct crossing Dubai Creek. The system can transport 56,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with trains running every minute and a half. Passengers can reach their destinations in 10 to 25 minutes.
Construction Teams Complete Major Engineering Milestones

The Blue Line project’s construction consortium has reached several major engineering milestones in its first phase of development. Teams have completed more than 260 deep foundations at multiple work sites. Station locations in International City (1), (2), and (3) now have excavation works that total over 400,000 cubic meters.
The project consortium runs two ready-mix concrete plants to streamline operations. Two yards in Al Ruwayyah 3 and International City handle the production and storage of precast concrete elements. These facilities help maintain construction material quality and streamline the supply chain.
Managing traffic has become a key part of the construction process. The project area now has 11 traffic diversions in place. The engineering team has planned 10 more diversions to support station construction while keeping city traffic flowing smoothly.
The project’s safety record stands at an impressive 3 million work hours with zero fatalities.ย This achievement shows RTA’s commitment to international safety standards and proves their field supervision systems work well.ย As a result, the integrated project management frameworks protect worker safety and maintain construction quality throughout development.
Dubai Metro’s Blue Line marks a groundbreaking achievement in the emirate’s transportation development. The project has reached an impressive 10% completion ahead of schedule. This milestone showcases the hard work of more than 500 engineers and 3,000 workers on this ambitious project. The Blue Line will reshape the scene in eastern Dubai with its 30km route and 14 strategic stations that connect key residential, academic, and economic areas.
The economic rewards are already visible. Property values near future stations have jumped 23% since the announcement. Experts predict these values will grow up to 25% by completion. On top of that, it will affect the emirate’s economy with a predicted value of AED 56.5 billion by 2040.
RTA’s steadfast dedication to worker safety shines through the numbers. Workers have logged over 3 million hours without fatalities across all 12 construction sites. The excellent safety record pairs perfectly with major engineering achievements – 260 deep foundations and 400,000 cubic meters of excavation. These milestones are evidence of the project’s technical excellence.
RTA predicts the Blue Line will serve almost 200,000 passengers daily by 2030. This number should grow to 320,000 by 2040. These predictions align with the expected population growth in connected areas, which should reach about one million residents by 2040. The Y-shaped design helps areas that don’t deal very well with transportation needs while complementing the existing Red and Green lines.
Construction teams keep making steady progress despite urban construction challenges. The traffic management team has successfully completed 11 diversions, with 10 more in the pipeline to minimize disruption. Dedicated concrete plants and precast yards ensure top material quality and smooth supply chain operations.
The Blue Line, set to open on September 9, 2029, offers a forward-thinking answer to Dubai’s growing transportation needs. This project deepens Dubai’s commitment to world-class infrastructure and environmentally responsible urban mobility solutions.
