Flydubai’s Tribute to Emirati Women in Command

Flydubai has seen its Emirati women workforce almost triple since August 2022. This upward trend represents a fundamental change in the aviation industry’s gender dynamics. The airline celebrated this achievement during Emirati Women’s Day, which recognizes women who have become pillars of the growing workforce. In fact, this progress mirrors the UAE’s aviation sector evolution, where women make up 38% of the Emirates Group’s Emirati workforce.

Flydubai’s journey began in 2009, and the airline has served more than 120 million passengers. The company now operates a fleet of 93 aircraft that connects over 135 destinations. The airline’s operational success runs parallel to its commitment to gender diversity in recruitment and leadership development. The Emirates Group now features more than 200 Emirati women in leadership roles. Flydubai continues to revolutionize the industry by offering specialized training and career advancement opportunities to female aviation professionals.

Flydubai celebrated this year’s Emirati Women’s Day with special events that showcased the remarkable progress of its female professionals. The airline has seen exceptional growth in female representation across departments, especially among Emirati nationals.

“Our commitment to empowering Emirati women goes beyond mere numbers,” explains Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai. “We are creating a sustainable ecosystem where female aviation professionals can thrive at every level of our organization.”

The airline held a recognition ceremony at its headquarters to acknowledge outstanding contributions from its female Emirati team members. Several trailblazing women who broke barriers in traditionally male-dominated roles took center stage, including those in aviation engineering, flight operations, and network planning.

The company launched expanded mentorship opportunities to boost the professional development of female Emirati staff. These programs connect rising talent with experienced industry veterans and create paths to senior leadership positions.

“The progress we’ve witnessed reflects the broader vision of UAE leadership regarding women’s empowerment,” notes Al Ghaith. “As we continue expanding our operations globally, the diverse points of view our female colleagues bring to decision-making processes have become increasingly valuable.”

The airline plans to reach out to local communities and inspire the next generation of female aviators through educational partnerships with schools and universities.

flydubai makes significant investments in professional development through detailed training initiatives that develop Emirati female talent in aviation disciplines of all types. The airline’s structured programs include a Cadet program, engineering apprentice program, and internships across departments.

The airline’s new Ab Initio Pilot Training program serves as the cornerstone of these initiatives. High school graduates who are at least 17 years old can become commercial airline pilots through an 18-24 month training trip. The program combines ground school instruction, simulator sessions, flight training and seamless integration into flydubai’s operations.

The airline’s Aircraft Maintenance – Apprentice Engineer Program gives motivated Emirati high school graduates specialized skills with sponsorship from flydubai’s Maintenance & Engineering department. Successful candidates can apply for a Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License after completing this fully-funded four-year program that blends theoretical and practical training.

“Emirati Women’s Day is a special occasion to celebrate the remarkable contribution of our colleagues who are an important pillar of the growing flydubai workforce,” stated Nasser Binkherbash, Senior Vice President of Human Resources. “We are proud to support their continued success as they evolve as leaders of the future.”

The airline’s Learning and Development team launched a workshop called “Discover – Empowering Women to Navigate Career, Life, and Wellbeing” that gives women tools to achieve professional and personal excellence.
