RTA now provides free Wi-Fi at 43 bus and marine transport stations through collaboration with e&. This service improves Dubai’s public transportation infrastructure. Passengers can browse the internet for up to two hours at no cost across 21 bus stations and 22 marine transport stations in the city. The dubai free wifi service started at 29 bus and marine transport stations and will reach all planned locations by the second quarter of 2025. Passengers can check emails, watch videos, and get up-to-the-minute travel updates without using their mobile data. The better connectivity helps millions of residents, expats, and tourists who use Dubai’s public transport every day. This aligns with UAE’s goal to become the world’s smartest and happiest city.

RTA completes WiFi rollout at 43 public transport stations

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed installing free WiFi service at all 43 public transport stations in the emirate, as announced Tuesday, June 17. This most important milestone completes a phased implementation project that started earlier this year.

The network now serves 21 bus stations and 22 marine transport stations, giving millions of daily commuters continuous connection. The service was available at 29 locations in February 2025, which included 17 bus stations and 12 marine transport stations.

RTA’s Public Transport Agency’s Director of Transportation Systems, Khaled AbdulRahman Al Awadhi, confirmed the project’s completion matched the second quarter 2025 target date. “The Wi-Fi service will undergo continuous evaluation to help its expansion and boost in collaboration with e&, ensuring the highest quality connectivity for passengers,” Al Awadhi stated.

Free WiFi is now available at these prominent locations:

  • Major bus hubs: Al Ghubaiba, Union Station, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta, Deira City Center, and Business Bay
  • Key marine stations: Al Seef, Dubai Festival City, Bluewaters, and Sheik Zayed Road Marine Station

A mutually beneficial alliance with e& (formerly Etisalat) powers the telecommunications infrastructure, which ensures reliable and secure connectivity. Users can connect to the free WiFi service for up to 2 hours per session.

This initiative supports RTA’s recently launched 360 Services Policy that aims to boost customer experience through digital transformation. The policy also lines up with RTA’s efforts to move services to self-service models. Customers can now access these services through shared digital platforms like the Dubai Now app.

The WiFi rollout adds to existing connectivity services, including WiFi UAE (powered by du), which serves Dubai Metro, RTA taxis, public busses, and marine transport services.

Getting connected to Dubai’s free WiFi service at RTA stations is simple and easy. You can access high-speed internet at any of the 43 public transport locations. This makes your daily commute more productive and fun.

You just need to follow these four steps:

  1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device, tablet, or laptop
  2. Look for and select “RTA Free WiFi” from the available networks
  3. Wait to be redirected to the login page and follow the on-screen instructions
  4. Accept the terms and conditions to complete the authentication process

The service lets you browse the internet, check emails, stream videos, or access up-to-the-minute travel information while you wait. You get a generous two-hour connection time for each session, which covers most commuting and waiting times.

The RTA and e& have put strong security measures in place to keep the network safe for everyone. This helps address the usual worries about public WiFi networks and gives commuters peace of mind while using the service.

The simplified process works well for all passengers, whatever their tech skills. So even people who aren’t tech-savvy can easily connect and enjoy uninterrupted service during their experience.

This WiFi boost gives you another option besides other Dubai WiFi services that usually limit your connection time or data usage. The RTA service also lets you connect right away without any complicated signup processes that need registration or phone numbers.

The WiFi service fits perfectly with RTA’s plan to reshape the digital scene. It makes public transport better for both residents and tourists. You can stay connected at major bus hubs like Al Ghubaiba or marine stations like Al Seef without using your personal mobile data throughout your public transport experience.

Free WiFi supports Dubai’s smart city and sustainability goals

Dubai’s public transport network now offers free WiFi. This innovation forms the life-blood of Dubai’s smart city strategy. The city wants to become the smartest and most connected urban center in the world by 2030.

The new WiFi system does more than provide convenience. It gives all residents and visitors access to essential online services, whatever their economic status. The network helps bridge the digital divide and particularly benefits lower-income workers who depend on public transport.

The WiFi system supports several green initiatives. Passengers can now access digital tickets, timetables, and route information online. This move to digital interactions saves thousands of paper transactions every day across 43 stations.

RTA’s connectivity project works alongside other smart transportation initiatives:

  • Real-time passenger information systems that help plan trips better
  • Digital payment solutions that make fare collection easier
  • Data analytics that help RTA adjust service frequency based on actual usage patterns

These connected systems help reduce traffic and make public transport more efficient. This indirectly reduces the city’s carbon footprint.

The mutually beneficial alliance with e& shows Dubai’s steadfast dedication to public-private partnerships in building sustainable urban infrastructure. This partnership lets the emirate use innovative technology without depending only on government resources.

The WiFi service makes Dubai more appealing to tourists by offering continuous connection throughout their trips. This feature strengthens Dubai’s status as a top global destination for business and leisure travelers.

RTA’s creation of a more connected public transport system marks a crucial step toward achieving Dubai’s vision. The emirate is on its way to becoming not just the smartest city, but one of the most sustainable urban environments worldwide.

Dubai’s successful free WiFi implementation across 43 transport stations marks a major milestone in the emirate’s public infrastructure growth. RTA completed this continuous connection initiative on schedule by the second quarter of 2025. This project shows RTA’s steadfast dedication to improving passenger experience through technology.

Passengers can now enjoy two hours of free internet access at all 21 bus stations and 22 marine transport stations during their commutes. Daily travelers save their mobile data while staying connected to essential online services. The simple four-step connection process makes it easy for users with any level of technical knowledge.

RTA’s strategic collaboration with e& (formerly Etisalat) made this achievement possible. The project strengthens Dubai’s position as a leading smart city along with other digital improvements like immediate passenger information systems and digital payment options. The initiative supports green practices by cutting down paper use through digital tickets and schedules.

This WiFi service goes beyond convenience. It promotes digital inclusion by offering internet access whatever the economic status. Dubai becomes more attractive to international visitors who need continuous connection during their travels. The service fits perfectly with RTA’s broader digital transformation plan to move toward self-service models.

Free WiFi throughout Dubai’s transport network means more than just a tech upgrade. It brings to life the emirate’s vision of building the smartest, most sustainable, and inclusive urban environment worldwide. RTA will keep evaluating and improving this service to ensure Dubai stays at the vanguard of public transport innovation in coming years.
