Organized by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), this remarkable exhibition is shaping up to be a game-changer in the journey towards the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
This year’s WETEX has blown away expectations with its record-breaking participation and international presence. Groundbreaking innovations in green mobility, cutting-edge environmental technologies, and smart grid solutions that are set to revolutionize water management were on display. The event also put the spotlight on electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable transport, giving a glimpse into the future of the green economy.
WETEX has once again surpassed expectations, solidifying its position as a global powerhouse in sustainability and renewable energy. This year’s event has truly raised the bar, showcasing an unprecedented level of participation and international presence.
The numbers speak for themselves. WETEX welcomed an astounding 2,800 companies from 65 countries, marking a significant increase from previous years. This diverse representation brought together a wealth of expertise and innovation under one roof, testament to the growing importance of sustainability and clean energy solutions on the global stage.
One of the most exciting aspects of this year’s WETEX was the presence of 21 international pavilions. These pavilions served as hubs of innovation, featuring cutting-edge technologies and sustainable projects from around the world. Familiar faces from countries like China, India, Italy, and Germany were present, as regular participants in the exhibition. But what’s truly exciting was the addition of new pavilions from Canada, Switzerland, and Belarus, joining for the first time.
The overwhelming success of WETEX has further cemented Dubai’s position as a global capital for green economy and sustainable development. It’s become an annual must-attend event for organizations worldwide, offering a platform to build trade relations, sign deals, and exchange the latest technologies and innovations.
WETEX has enhanced Dubai’s reputation as an international hub for exhibitions and conferences. It’s a clear reflection of the city’s commitment to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and its leadership in climate action and energy transition. The exhibition has also played a crucial role in highlighting Dubai’s cultural, commercial, and investment opportunities. By bringing together such a diverse group of participants, WETEX is fostering collaboration and driving innovation in vital sectors like water management, smart grids, and electric vehicles.
WETEX showcased groundbreaking developments in green mobility this year. The event has truly set a new standard for sustainable transport solutions, aligning perfectly with the commitment to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy.
One of the highlights of this year’s exhibition was the introduction of the Green Mobility Hall. This dedicated space hosted leading local and international companies specializing in mobility, transport, and green mobility logistics. An impressive array of innovative solutions and practices using cutting-edge technologies in both individual and public sustainable transport sectors were on display.
Solutions aimed at reducing operational and infrastructure costs of electric vehicles (EVs), improving energy efficiency in transport, and promoting the use of hydrogen and low-emission fuels caught the eye of many attendees. These advancements are set to revolutionize the way we think about transportation.
The UAE has made significant strides in EV adoption, boasting one of the highest ratios of charging stations to EVs worldwide. The EV Green Charger initiative, launched back in 2014, has been a game-changer. It led to the creation of the region’s first public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Today, Dubai’s advanced green charging station infrastructure consists of more than 700 stations, with around 400 operated by DEWA. This extensive network has played a crucial role in encouraging the use of EVs and reducing carbon emissions. In fact, a reduction of 236,700 tons of carbon emissions until April 2023 has been observed, which is a significant step towards sustainability goals.
WETEX also highlighted some exciting developments in sustainable transport solutions. A shift towards non-motorized transportation like walking and cycling, as well as the promotion of green vehicles and car-sharing initiatives, was evident.
One standout innovation is the Service Station of the Future (SSoF) at Expo City, Dubai. This unique station provides green hydrogen, hydrocarbon fuels, and electric charging stations all in one place. It’s a testament to the commitment to offering diverse and sustainable energy options for transportation.
The launch of Charger, the UAE’s first on-demand EV fast-charging station, was another exciting development. This innovative service allows EV drivers to request fast-charging services anytime and anywhere through a mobile app, making electric vehicle charging more convenient and accessible than ever before.
Some of the most innovative technologies and projects were in the spotlight at WETEX this year. These groundbreaking initiatives are set to revolutionize the approach to sustainability and clean energy.
The crown jewel of Dubai’s renewable energy efforts, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, continues to impress. As the largest single-site solar park in the world, it’s a testament to the commitment to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
By the end of the first half of 2024, the park’s production capacity reached 2,860 MW, accounting for about 17% of DEWA’s total electricity production capacity. The project is on track to hit its target of more than 5,000 MW by 2030, which will significantly boost Dubai’s clean energy portfolio.
The Green Hydrogen Project, making waves in the MENA region, was particularly exciting. It’s the first of its kind to produce hydrogen using solar power, with a gas tank that can store up to 12 hours of hydrogen. Since its launch in 2021, the project has been consistently meeting production goals, producing around 20kg of hydrogen an hour. This project is a big step towards a more sustainable future and has even earned the Hydrogen Project of the Year 2023 Award.
The Smart Grid initiative, with a total investment of AED 7 billion, is transforming how power and water networks are managed. It’s not just about efficiency; it’s about creating a seamless, integrated system that’s ready for the future. The smart grid allows for two-way communication between DEWA and its customers, enabling real-time monitoring and automated decision-making across the entire network.
Exciting developments in digital transformation and cybersecurity were also on display. WETEX has become a hub for companies specializing in these areas, showcasing the latest in AI governance, cyber risk prediction, and network security. These innovations are crucial as we move towards smarter, more connected cities.
WETEX has once again proved to be a game-changer in the world of sustainability and renewable energy. The event’s unprecedented success, with a record-breaking number of exhibitors and international pavilions, has cemented Dubai’s position as a global hub for green economy and sustainable development.
