Saudi Arabia’s Grand Vision: Expo 2030 to Host 197 Countries
Riyadh’s Expo 2030 stands out as one of the most ambitious global events in recent history. Projections suggest around 42 million visitors will explore the massive exhibition grounds during its six-month run. The kingdom plans to welcome 197 participating countries to this monumental gathering, showcasing its steadfast dedication to building an inclusive international platform.
The exhibition will occupy a sprawling six million square meters, offering space for hundreds of pavilions and interactive displays. Of course, Riyadh’s strategic geographical location makes the expo available to nearly 50% of the world’s population within a five-hour flight radius. The event will highlight three crucial sub-themes: “Prosperity for All,” “Climate Action,” and “A Different Tomorrow”. These themes reflect global priorities and help accelerate structural reform and private sector growth within Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia plans to welcome 197 countries to the global exhibition, announced Talal Al-Marri, CEO of Expo 2030 Riyadh, at the 9th Future Investment Initiative conference. The infrastructure development for this massive event will start before the end of this year.
“Expo is of great importance in bringing people together in one place and providing them with opportunities for genuine human interaction,” Al-Marri stated. The event will run for six months from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031, and expects around 42 million visits.
Riyadh’s metro network will make visitor movement easier by connecting different parts of the city directly to the expo site. This is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader infrastructure projects, which include airports and economic initiatives in various sectors.
The expo will spread across six million square meters with five distinct thematic zones[62]. Its vision focuses on technological transformation, environmentally responsible solutions, and human development through education.
“Therefore, we invite the world to join us and benefit from what we will offer. Expo 2030 was designed to be a strategic platform for the future and to contribute to global change,” added Al-Marri[71]. The organizers will help enable each country’s participation through the ‘Expo Participant Lab’ with guidance and support.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has launched the Expo 2030 Riyadh Company (ERC) to mark the official start of construction efforts for Expo 2030 Riyadh. The company will build and operate all facilities for the international event. Contract awards for the infrastructure tender, issued in September, should be announced by December.
This massive project covers 6 million square meters, with a gated event area spanning 2 million square meters. The site ranks among the largest World Expo venues in history. The location’s strategic placement lies between the future King Salman International Airport and Riyadh City.
The Kingdom’s infrastructure development goes well beyond the expo grounds. Saudi Arabia will invest AED 539.78 billion to transform its aviation sector. The King Salman International Airport’s development includes six parallel runways that will handle 185 million passengers yearly by 2050. The metro system will connect the airport directly to the expo site.
The project will bring substantial economic benefits. The construction phase alone should add approximately AED 235 billion to Saudi GDP and create 171,000 direct and indirect jobs. The operational phase will contribute about AED 20.56 billion to GDP.
Expo 2030 Riyadh’s CEO, Talal Al-Marri, has assured that major developments will be ready before the expo begins. These include Diriyah, Qiddiya, King Salman Park, and Sports Boulevard.
