UAE Charts New Path: President Names 2025 Community Year

UAE community initiatives reached their most important milestone when President Sheik Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced 2025 as the Year of Community with the slogan “Hand in Hand.” This announcement shows the nation’s dedication to building stronger social bonds in its seven emirates.

Sheik Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will oversee this initiative. They want to preserve cultural heritage and create inclusive spaces where people can work together. This detailed program encourages community service, volunteering, and effective projects that build a culture of shared responsibility. The leadership has invited all citizens and residents to share their ideas and proposals. This ensures everyone can help strengthen social bonds and community progress throughout 2025.

Vision and Strategic Framework

The Department of Community Development has revealed a complete strategic framework that strengthens families as the foundation of a connected society. This framework covers 30 innovative initiatives to support parents, caregivers, and seniors.

The Abu Dhabi Family Wellbeing Strategy brings vital support systems to families. These include marriage preparation centers and financial literacy programs. The strategy also creates work-life balance policies and life skills programs to boost family bonds. The Department worked with more than 30 entities and hosted 23 focus groups to shape these initiatives.

The UAE government has set aside AED 500 million to support community-focused programs. These programs aim to ensure a decent standard of living, encourage a tolerant society built on cohesive families, and create an active community.

This strategic framework matches the UAE National Agenda’s vision. More than 300 officials from 90 federal and local government entities helped develop this agenda. The implementation happens through collaboration with the core team of institutions. These include the Family Care Authority, Family Development Foundation, and Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority.

The strategy puts special emphasis on cultural heritage and intergenerational connections. Several initiatives focus on:

  • Supporting parents in raising children with strong family values
  • Meeting senior citizens’ needs through dedicated community centers
  • Providing financial planning guidance across generations
  • Establishing family preparation and counseling services

These strategic initiatives have helped the UAE make progress in social development. The country’s Human Development Index value has risen by 25.1 percent since 1990.

Community Service Implementation

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Community Development has put detailed measures in place to improve social participation in the emirate. A new volunteering policy now makes procedures simpler through the Emirates Volunteers platform.

More than 188,000 citizens and residents responded to the Quality of Life survey, which serves as a vital measurement tool. The results showed that 97% of participants were proud to live in the emirate. The civic engagement module revealed that all but one of these respondents did not take part in social activities or volunteer work.

The authority launched trailblazing initiatives to close this gap. The Department of Community Development worked with 13 government entities and created many programs for People of Determination. They achieved:

  • Development of 226 inclusive parks and playgrounds
  • Adaptation of 1,949 buildings to make them available
  • Implementation of 727 accessible public transport busses

Mutually beneficial alliances have moved forward significantly, generating AED 2.4 billion in deals from 2020-2024. These partnerships created nearly 5,000 construction jobs and 450 operational roles. The Department of Finance – Abu Dhabi saved AED 1.4 billion in capital and operational costs through these initiatives.

The Emirates Foundation uses platforms like Volunteers.ae to strengthen community participation by connecting volunteers with deserving causes. The Dubai Volunteering Center acts as the first formal organization that manages volunteering services and promotes unity throughout society.
